Taxes
Township Property Taxes (Collected in 2010)
St. Clair Township was forced to increase its tax request by 4.4% this year in order to continue properly maintaining the parks. This amounts to an increase of $1.35 per year on a $200,000 home. Remember that township taxes are a very small part of your tax bill. (See St. Clair Twp on your tax bill).
What necessitated the tax increase? Sewer department personnel have been maintaining the parks, but that practice has to end because sewer funds can only be used for sewer related purposes. Since park maintenance is not a sewer related expense, the sewer department will be reimbursed for any work they do in the parks from now on.
This change will reduce sewer department expenses but increase park department expense by equal amounts. Sewer users will benefit overall from this change because township citizens who do not pay sewer fees will now be paying for a share of the park maintenance personnel in their taxes. Before, only the sewer users were funding the park maintenance employees.
Road District Property Taxes (Collected in 2010)
The St. Clair Township Road District did not request any tax increase this year, but because the assessed value of the entire Township decreased by about ten million dollars, Road District taxes increased slightly for each property owner. (See St. Clair Road on your tax bill).
